| To the Editor:
A constitutional amendment is a terrible idea. Most of the arguments against allowing same-sex couples to marry use religious arguments. Yet we live – or so we pretend – in a secular society. As an American, we are guaranteed freedom fromthe dictates
of other peoples religion. I do not have to wear a head scarf or a cover my face and body. I can do my grocery shopping on Saturday or on Sunday if I choose. If I choose to, I can eat pork and shellfish. To violate this doctrine separating church and state is
un-American and un-constitutional. We live in a democracy, not a theocracy. |
